Are You Ready For Some Handwriting!? Football Themed Games

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here and we have a fun handwriting Football themed board game that everyone will love! This handwriting board game is designed to promote development of handwriting and social skills. Are You Ready for Some Handwritng is a fun game that can be played individually or in a group setting (2 players). We also have a Fine Motor Flick Football Game, you can find out more about this game at the bottom of this post.
Are You Ready for Some Handwriting?! Board Game is designed to promote the following essential skills:
- Handwriting Skills - Handwriting is a complex process of recording language by hand, often by using paper and a pen or pencil. The production of legible and efficient handwriting requires intact skills in the areas of postural control, eye hand coordination, visual perception, fine motor control, ocular control, and pencil grasp. A child’s handwriting abilities have significant influence on their academic performance.
- Social Skills - turn taking, sharing materials, and following directions.
Materials:
This Football Themed Board Game is a print and go resource! Materials required to play this game include:
- Game Board (included)
- Game Cards (included)
- Game Sheet/Lined Paper/Clipboard (included)
- Football Jersey Game Tokens (included)
- Binder Clips
- Dice
- Pencil
Preparation & Assembly
Preparation is easy! Simply read the Directions/Game Rules included in the PDF, and then assemble game tokens as directed. We used binder clips to make our Football Jersey Game Tokens "stand up!" Print out game board and game cards. Laminate or print on heavy paper for durability. Cut out game cards and place in a pile. Print out game sheet (lined paper/clipboard) for each player.
How to Play:
1. Assign colors/jerseys for each player & decide order of players.
2. Each player places their game token on start.
3. Player 1 starts by rolling their dice and moving that number of spaces on the game board.
4. He/She completes the action as indicated on the space they land on.
5. If they land on “Pick a card” - they choose a card from the pile. They read the card and using their game sheet, write a sentence using the word indicated on the card.
6. If they land on “Pick 2 cards” they choose 2 cards & write a sentence using both words in that sentence.
7. If the child lands on a blank space, they simply stay on that square and the next player goes.
8. The next player repeats steps 3 - 7.
9. The game is played until a player reaches the finish line.
Variations of Football Handwriting Board Game Include:
- Children may be seated at a table or prone to play.
- Reduce the number of rolls by using 2 dice.
- Use different sized line paper depending on skill level of child.
- If 2 players are playing - each time a player lands on “pick a card(s)” have BOTH players write a senstence(s).
